Many models have launched their careers after gracing the cover of the most prominent swimsuit magazine in the world. Here's a closer look at some of the most famous models who have been featured on the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Edition cover.
Perhaps the first supermodel to be made thanks to the Swimsuit Edition, Cheryl Tiegs first landed on the cover in 1970 from her shoot in Hawaii. It would be her third time in Sports Illustrated, not even on the cover in 1978, when Tiegs' modeling career escalated to super-stardom.
After being photographed in a fish net swimsuit that was partially see through, Tiegs was offered a $1.5 million contract for Cover Girl. She started signature line of clothing sold at Sears beginning in 1980.
