Kelly Hu in Hawii Five-0

Hawaii's Kelly Hu is scheduled to appear in the Nov. 1 episode of "Hawaii Five-0," CBS announced today.

The episode features Hu guest-starring as Laura Hills, the governor's public safety liaison. It was shot last month, partly aboard the Battleship Missouri Memorial at Pearl Harbor.

The Mighty Mo is the backdrop for the story of a Navy SEAL accused of murder. He ends up taking hostages aboard the decommissioned battleship and Steve McGarrett and company have to diffuse the crisis.

Veteran actor Robert Loggia also guest stars as Boatswain's Mate 1st Class Ed McKay. Loggia appeared in a 1979 episode on the original "Five-0."

She is of English, Chinese, Hawaiian, and Filipino descent. She attended Ma'ema'e Elementary School and Kamehameha Schools in Honolulu, Hawaii.

To gain publicity, Kelly won the Miss Hawaii Teen USA 1985 title and competed in the Miss Teen USA 1985 pageant, becoming the third Miss Teen USA titleholder. Hu has mentioned in interviews that her mother had told her America was not ready for an Asian as such a prominent role model. However, Hu became the first Asian American to win the title. Ironically enough, she discovered after winning that she was prohibited from appearing in non-contest related activities for the year of her reign.
